Welisizwe Rural Bridges: Connecting Communities, Transforming Lives
The creative concept for this 60-second advertisement is inspired by the vast beauty and character of South Africa's rural landscapes, using them as the visual foundation for a story about connection, resilience, and progress. Built around the theme "Connecting Communities, Changing Lives," the film explores how the Welisizwe Rural Bridges Programme does more than provide physical crossings—it creates pathways to education, healthcare, economic opportunity, and stronger communities. The narrative is intentionally visual-first, allowing the environment and the people who inhabit it to communicate the impact of the bridges with authenticity and emotional depth.
Mgodoyi
Mgodoyi is a short animation film set in Johannesburg, South Africa. This is my debut script which is now at early pre-production status. I was able to write and develop this story with the help of the National Film and Video Foundation, who awarded me a development grant of R249 860 after I pitched the original concept to it's panel of grant funding adjudicators.
Logline:
Tragedy collides with triumph as a dog’s quest for survival
not only lands it in trouble, but leads it to the right place
at the right time.
Synopsis:
A dog owned by a family that can barely provide for itself
gets a rude awakening when two rats pounce on the scraps its
keepers have left for him. Robbed off its only meal, the dog
is left with no choice but to accompany a vagabond of a dog
who will do anything to survive and together they brace the
dog-eat dog streets of the township in search of something to
eat.
The two dogs arrive at a house of a vicious and feared dog in
the township whose ferocity is rewarded by its keepers with an
endless supply of kibble and contrive to steal its kibble but
are caught in their tracks and forced to flee
What if premise:
What if an impoverished dog from the township gets mistaken
for a spoilt suburban dog that is thought to be missing after
it abandons its “dog privilege” in search of something more
enthralling?
